General Practice Services
  Brookland Medical Centre provides effective, high quality, continuing general medical care for the individual and family.
It is a bulk-billed GP practice for Medicare card and DVA cardholders for general medical consultations. 
Our GPs and practice nurse are dedicated to the best possible health care of our patients. 
  Prevention is better than cure.
In line with national immunisation guidelines, Brookland Medical Centre offers immunisation services such as 
  • Routine childhood immunisation
  • Traveler’s immunisations 
  • Annual influenza immunisation
  • Immunisations for special group of people such as patients with chronic medical condition, splenectomy patients, chronic renal failure, etc.,

Preventive Health and
Health Checks
 Brookland Medical Centre can offer you a wide range of preventive health and health check. 

A Health check may take about 20 to 30 minutes. It normally involves seeing a practice nurse and then followed by a consultation with a doctor.  

The following categories of health assessments may be undertaken by a medical practitioner 

  • Health assessment for people aged 45-49 years who are at risk of developing chronic diseases
  • Type 2 diabetes risk evaluation for people aged 40-49 years with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes as determined by the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool 
  • Health assessment for people aged 75 years and older
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People who are less than 15 years old, who are aged 15 years and over but under the age of 55 years and who are aged 55 years and over

Health Checks are generally made up of the following elements: 
  • Information collection, including taking a patient history and undertaking or arranging examinations and investigations as required
  • Making an overall assessment of the patient and recommending appropriate intervention
  • Providing advice and information to the patient
  • Keeping a record of the health assessment, and offering the patient a written report about the health assessment, with recommendations about issues covered by the health assessment
  • Offering the patient’s carer (if any, and if the medical practitioner considers it appropriate and the patient agrees) a copy of the report or extracts of the report to the carer.

  • Cervical Cancer screening - (5 yearly cervical Screening Test from age of 25 to 74)
  • Breast Cancer Screening (mammography from age of 40 to 69) 
  • Skin Cancer Screening (yearly or opportunistic check) 
  • Bowel Cancer Screening (Australians turning 50, 55, 60 or 65 years of age, who hold a Medicare card or DVA card)
  • Prostate Cancer Screening (it is a controversial area – please discuss with your GP)
Children and Adolescent Health
All of our GP’s are experienced in managing a wide variety of medical problems, which children can present with.

Most of our GPs have a special interest in paediatric medicine, and some of them have attained a Diploma in Child Health.

We provide acute and ongoing medical care for children and are also well connected to various local specialists, private and public hospitals for more advanced and specialist management if required.

We offer many specialized child health services including:
Common childhood infections management - such as upper airway infections, ear infections, tonsillitis, skin infection, etc.,

Chronic Disease Management 
Chronic diseases are really stressful condition not only for the patient but also for the carers and family, especially if the condition is not managed. 

Our doctors are confident and have up-to-date knowledge in making diagnosis, initial  and ongoing care in chronic medical conditions, with appropriate referral to specialists and allied health workers as necessary. We offer a GP management plan as well as team care management plan for all the patients with chronic medical conditions to provide comprehensive service. 

If you have a chronic medical condition, you may require a care plan, which involves minimal 4 visits to see your GP in a year to monitor your condition, information collection, physical examination and blood tests to provide best optimal care.

The chronic medical conditions which can be effectively managed at The Brookland Medical Centre include:

Skin Health
Do you know that skin is the largest organ in your body.

RACGP recommended that - all people (especially children aged ≤10 years) should be advised to adopt protective measures when UV levels are 3 and above. These measures include use of shade; broad-brimmed, bucket or legionnaire-style hats; protective clothing; sunglasses; and sun protection factor (SPF) 30+ sunscreens, (which need to be reapplied every 2 hours).

If you have the following conditions, you may have a higher risk for melanoma or non-melanoma skin cancer; 
Family history of skin cancer in first-degree relative
Fair complexion, a tendency to burn rather than tanned, the presence of freckles, light eye colour, light or red hair colour
Aged over 30 years (over 50 years are most at risk)
Presence of solar lentigines (commonly known as "brown spot")
Past history of skin cancer
People with childhood high levels of UV exposure and episodes of sunburn in childhood
Those with multiple atypical or dysplastic naevi (atypical mole) and who have a history of melanoma in themselves or in a first-degree relative
Past exposure to arsenic
Immunosuppressed patients (e.g. post-renal or heart transplant)

Men's Health
Brookland Medical Centre offers a wide range of health care focusing on men's health.
Our doctors have competent knowledge in men's health issues and some of them have special interest in men's health. 
If you are concerned about your sexual health, prostate health or infertility, we are here to help manage them or refer if necessary to the appropriate specialists.

If your GP provides you a GP mental health care plan (GPMHP), you are eligible to receive medicare rebate of approximately $84 per visit to a psychologist, making it affordable to access a psychologist.
